Closed ended fund vs open ended fund Rubina, 25 Mar 2013

Are closed ended mutual funds better than open ended funds?

Fintotal Answer

Close ended funds have traditionally not performed better than open ended funds. There are very few equity oriented closed ended funds; most of the times they are debt funds. ELSS are sort of closed-ended; you can buy them any time but exit only after 3 years. Returns of closed-ended funds has been lower than from open-ended funds. Open-ended are more flexible as investment option but closed ended funds may be good in the sense that you would be forced to stay invested and not react to market swings.
